Nigel Teo is the founder ofan app-enabled movement to bring back the kampung spirit. With over 80,000 verified neighbours, Nigel’s passionate about scaling culture and serving the community in a counter-cultural way.

Believing strongly that communities should be served and not sold, Nigel envisions a future where community will triumph over consumerism and capitalism, and more time, talent and treasures will be shared.

Imagine being able to carpool 10x more easily, or even borrow a neighbour’s car when needed? These can only happen when the kampung spirit is strong again.

Being the only ground-up that has booths at all 5 NDP heartland celebration locations this year, and featured by App Store every National Day since 2020 with key collaborations like HDB to launch in a new town, Nigel is excited to see be an integral part of Singapore’s neighbourhood community infrastructure & bring back the kampung spirit!

Jason Leow

By day, Jason is a UX researcher and service designer at Outsprint Design, a design consultancy working with government agencies and non-profits to help them create more human-centred products and services. He's also a self-taught web developer and indie hacker, and launched multiple digital products and SaaS.

By night, Jason enjoys making tech for good products to solve social issues. His recent project, Safe Distancing SG, went viral by helping Singaporeans navigate the safe distancing measures during the height of COVID pandemic.

He also made 10 other projects - Dabao Dash, Majulah Belanjah, Visualaid, Grant Hunt, and was awarded the IT Leader Awards 2021 for the effort. He's now working on his latest project PSI.SG, a web app to help Singaporeans live healthily with the haze.

Yeng Wai

As a Learning Designer and facilitator at Hyper Island Singapore, Yeng Wai has returned to the place that kickstarted his personal journey of transformation.
‍
Yeng Wai began his career as a civil servant and educator in the Singapore Ministry of Education. He cycled through different stops as lecturer, researcher, and leader, and dabbled in digital tools and projects before tapping out to pursue the Hyper Island Masters in Digital Management.

His transformation journey has since gifted him with varied opportunities and experiences from leading product management and development at a HRTech start-up, to consulting on digital transformation and innovation with a global non-profit, to prototyping data-driven dashboards that visualise visitor behaviour at an award-winning cultural institution.

Now, having rejoined the education sector, Yeng Wai’s passion continues to be about developing people to their fullest and highest calling. A lifelong learner with a wide-ranging and eclectic mix of interests, he continues to explore and experiment at the intersection of human + digital + behavioural sciences, and is a firm believer in and practitioner of iterative learning by doing.

Su Yuen is an entrepreneur with a passion for democratizing access to opportunities with remote work. Her current startup, MomoCentral, is an on-demand tech talent platform of human-interviewed, tested and verified developers and designers.

Her latest foray in the non-profit and edutech sector is being the Co-Founder and CTO of Vivita Singapore, a creativity accelerator that aims to provide kids with a truly creative and free space with limitless possibilities to bring their ideas to life, regardless of financial background.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Su Yuen is also helping HERA Digital Health with building technology to help with the disaster response to the Turkey earthquake.

Daniel Lim

Public Policy Manager (MY & SG) • Meta

Daniel leads Public Policy for Meta in Singapore and Malaysia, working with policymakers, academics and civil society in tackling emerging challenges in technology policy and fostering social good.

Prior to Meta, Daniel served in international relations at IMDA, representing Singapore’s interests in ICT policy, trade and internet governance matters at various UN forums. Daniel also managed regulatory and government affairs at Singtel and ExxonMobil.

A certified enterprise risk manager and former national athlete, Daniel serves in various capacities as advisor and board member in the tech and sporting space, fostering collaboration and partnerships with social impact.

Gia Ngo

Gia joined Give.Asia, Asia's leading free fundraising platform, in 2014 as a volunteer. Soon after, he found his circle of like-minded individuals and remained with the company since. Gia is currently the CTO and supports the team to build useful solutions that inspire more people to be givers.

Gia's other interest lies in AI research. He started AI research in natural language processing for languages like Vietnamese and Cantonese in 2013. Later on, Gia delved into the intersection between AI and neuroscience to explore how far the human mind can be understood and translated to AI.

Gia earned his B.Eng from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Ph.D. in AI for Neuroscience from Cornell University, USA.

Pat Law

Pat Law has been playing the game of digital andsocial advertising for almost 20 years. She's been a part of the furniture at Publicis, Leo Burnett, and Ogilvy, so long that she might have left an imprint on their office chairs.

She is the founder of GOODSTUPH, an 11-time Social Media Agency of the Year recipient. GOODSTUPH is a 150-human-2-dogs-1-cat social media agency headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Bangkok and Jakarta.

In 2017, she got invited to the Cannes Lions jury and nearly killed her liver at Gutter Bar. Thankfully, liver failure didn’t happen and she found herself chairing one of Singapore’s longest-running advertising award show - Hall of Fame, the year after.

Named one of Singapore’s Most Influential Creative Directors since 2017, and one of just two women to ever have been so named, she sometimes wonders if she was mistaken for a guy by the judges.

Outside the office, Pat is known for her philanthropy and advocacy, particularly with the LGBTQ+ community. Her agency is a 7-time sponsor of Pink Dot, Singapore’s annual event for LGBTQ+ rights. Pat is also a member of McKinsey’s The Alliance network - a global league of extraordinary LGBTQ+ leaders. It’s basically like Avengers, but with less spandex and more office attire.

What is BEACON?

BEACON is the better.sg annual tech for good conference, where we host the greatest minds in Singapore and invite everyone to come together to consolidate ways, ideas, and principles on how to launch, sustain, and incorporate tech4good projects into their work and lives.

What is better.sg?

As a registered charity part of the tech for good movement, Better.sg brings together technical and non-technical talents to brainstorm, develop, and launch ideas quickly. Better.sg's products are open source and free to use to bring out the best in society.

When and where will BEACON take place?

BEACON will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Marina One West Tower, Singapore.

Who should attend BEACON?

Anyone can attend this event! If you have an interest in how tech can impact our society positively, come on in and take part. If you are a non-profit looking to digitize, we have something for you too. Or, if you are simply a curious cat, this would be a great opportunity to dip your toes in and find out more about the tech for good scene in Singapore.
